Harvey Sisler ![]() MusicAlliance mourns the passing of Dr. Harvey Sisler. Harvey has been a MusicAlliance band teacher for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 school years. He was a kind, patient, and gentle soul - a multi-faceted, multi-talented man who had a deep love of music and of teaching music, and a genuine caring and compassion for his fellow human beings. He will be greatly missed by staff of MusicAlliance and by the many others whose lives he has touched. Harvey Sisler graduated from Cleveland Heights High School where he performed in the band and orchestra. He earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Music Education
from Kent State University and attended the Conservatory of the
Cleveland Institute of Music before enrolling at Kent. He also earned
a Ph.D. in Music Education from Case Western Reserve University. His
major instrument was trumpet but also did extensive private study on a
number of brass, woodwind, percussion and string instruments while
pursuing his Masters Degree.
Mr.
Sisler taught instrumental music through MusicAlliance as band director
at St Martin of Tours
School in Maple Heights and as assistant band instructor at Gesu School
in University Heights. He was also the director and founder
of the University
Heights Symphonic Band and Crooked River Concert Band.
Music was his great passion in life but he was also into sports and
was a fan of the Indians, Browns, and Cavs. At one time he collected
stamps and considered doing so again.
Sisler
was an avid writer having written books and booklets on getting
better grades, home businesses, and how to read music. He was
married to his beloved wife Beverly for 50 years. They have two
children who are both social workers.
